A higher risk of heart attack and stroke
It's a boxed warning for the whole NSAID family, which includes prescription ibuprofen. The risk can start early in treatment.
“Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, including myocardial infarction and stroke, which can be fatal.”
Get help right away for chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness on one side or slurred speech. Stomach bleeding is also a risk.
